Using an effective SPF on your ski trip might be even more important than during your summer holiday. The UV radiation in the mountains is higher, the air is cleaner meaning the sun has more power and the snow reflects radiation – even when the sun isn’t shining. Frequent and generous lubrication is therefore a must, and don’t forget your lips. Be aware that you’ll have to reapply our SPF more often due to the sweating and taking off your helmet or hat frequently.
Your hair will most likely be hidden under a hat or helmet all day and the cold makes your hair vulnerable for becoming static. An intensively nourishing hair mask is a must both before and during your holiday. And before you hit the slopes, we recommend applying a nourishing oil to counteract the static charge. Preferably braid your hair and tuck it into your jacket while skiing: this way you protect your hair as much as possible against the sun, wind and cold.
We do recommend some extra skin treatment, but don’t overdo it. Focus on hydrating and calming the skin. A face mask will boost your skin to up its barrier, while a peeling or scrub can be a bit too harsh considering the circumstances.
Hydrate from the inside! Nothing as effective as drinking enough water to hydrate your skin from the inside out. Preferably drink lukewarm water as your body needs all its energy to stay warm.
It’s just so tempting: taking a long and hot shower after a day on the slopes. We know showering hot already dries out your skin under normal circumstances, but with those extreme temperature changes it’s nothing but disastrous.
Big changes in temperature, the low humidity in the mountains and an abundance of sunlight combined with sweat means that your daily moisturizer will probably not be sufficient. Time to switch to a richer and fuller cream or oil for dry skin. We recommend you to reapply your face cream during lunch. And remember: first apply your moisturizer, let it dry, and follow with a separate SPF (a day cream with SPF included won’t be enough).
