Next to the round neck, the V-neck is one of the most common necklines. This neckline represents femininity, flatters and showcases a tempting edge. The V-neck is often characterized by sharp lines, but nowadays it also comes with a slightly curved design. The V-neck is perfect for the A-line Straight, V-line, H-line, 8-line and O-line body type. Next to the regular V-neck, there’s also the V-neck that’s created by the wrap design of tops, blouses and dresses – especially for the 8-line a must-do design. PS also wear the V-neck sweater or dress layered over a thin turtleneck top for a modern layered look.
Do you have larger breasts and/or a short neck? The V-neck is a perfect choice.
Do you have broader shoulders and/or a broader neck? Choose a narrow V-neck to add balance.
Do you have a long neck and/or slouched or narrow shoulders? Avoid V-neck designs.
The round neck is unmistakably stylish, super feminine and comes in a range of designs - from a crewneck to a scooped neck. The round neck is - of course - characterized by curved lines that guarantee a soft appearance. The A-line Round body type, the 8-line and the O-line - especially the wide, round neck - form a perfect match. The U-neck is also part of the variations of round necklines and showcases - like the name says - a U-shaped design. Create a layered look with different round necklines for a contemporary look.
Do you have larger breasts and/or a shorter neck? An open neckline is the perfect match.
Do you have a wide neck and/or broader shoulders? Avoid the round necklines.
The boat neck is an extension of the round neck and is characterized by elegance. This neckline showcases a horizontal line from shoulder to shoulder, with a curved design along the neck.
Do you have a short neck and/or slouched or narrow shoulder? Choose an open neckline, like a boat neck.
Do you have smaller breasts? Opt for a high, round neck – like a boat neck.
The split neck actually forms a combination between the round neck and the (split) V-neck. The round neck can also be replaced by a turnover collar. In fact, the Henley is a variation on the split neck with a round neck featuring a partial button closure at front. The button closure can be worn buttoned-up or unbuttoned for a split neck. By alternating the button closure, the Henley is suitable for all body types and to possibly flatter/cover up or emphasize body characteristics.
Do you have larger breasts and/or a short neck? Go for the open neckline of the Henley or split neck.
Do you have a long neck? Go for a high, subtle split neck.
The turtleneck collar is a true favorite and while the design looks simplistic, there are endless variations on this classic style. From gathered high turtleneck collars tot the mock neck that’s characterized by a short standing collar - the turtleneck collar offers the perfect design for every style. Obviously, you can wear the turtleneck solo but it’s also a great layering piece - whether it’s underneath a round or V-neck to style to your body type or to flatter or emphasize. Keep the thickness of the turtleneck top in mind in combination with the upper layer. The thinner the top layer, the thinner the turtleneck top. PS also go for a turtleneck design with a zipper to create a split neck - when desired.

The turnover collar of a shirt isn’t directly a neckline, but on the other hand it offers the possibility to create a V-neck and even a split neck. For example, when you wear a turnover style with button-through front all buttoned-up, it radiates something radically different than wearing it opened or loose. Wear buttoned-up for a business occasion, create a V-neck with a few buttons open or wear unbuttoned and layer over a top or T-shirt. A variation of wearing possibilities and a variation of necklines.
Do you have larger breasts and/or a short neck? Create a V-neck with an unbuttoned design.
Do you have a long neck? Wear the turnover collar buttoned-up.
The range of necklines is endless and next to the more ‘standard’ necklines we also come across necklines that may or may not be in fashion at the moment. We think of the square neckline, the sweetheart neckline, the one-shoulder and off-shoulder design, the asymmetric neckline and the strapless design. Named necklines don’t return every season or are not suitable for every season, but offer a stylish alternative for the well-known necklines.
Do you have a short neck, go for an open neckline, like the sweetheart, strapless or off-shoulder style.
Do you have heavier upper arms? Avoid the aforementioned necklines.
Do you want wear a completely different neckline? Go for an asymmetric neckline - success guaranteed.
