Brown is an all-time favorite (basic) color in autumn and effortlessly combines with other earth tones. It’s a softer alternative for black, but offers – just like black – a solid foundation for endless looks. Hazelnut brown, chestnut brown, chocolate brown, caramel brown, taupe.. the range of brown hues is endless. Wear brown with other brown shades or beige for a tonal look or add depth with different textures – think of the coarse texture of knits or the smooth touch of silk. Create a bold contrast and wear brown with a warm red color or orange hues for a rustic look that matches the autumn color palette.
Camel is part of the brown shades, but this color also has some overlap with ochre yellow. Camel is a shade of brown that’s mixed with yellow that determines the warm character of this color. On the opposite, ochre yellow is a yellow color that’s subtly pigmented with brown and showcases a gold-tone look – and is also called brown-yellow. Both ochre yellow and camel make a beautiful match with brown shades, but also with other earth tones like green and beige. Also neutral colors dark blue and grey effortlessly match with both ochre yellow and camel.
From grass green and olive green to sea green, emerald green, khaki and sage – green is a genuine earth tone which is reflected by the color names. Go for green, brown or beige.
Terracotta and rust form the rich colors within the earth tones and are perfect to combine with the neutral colors brown, green and beige. Terracotta showcases pink and red tones – and is originally found in the color of clay. The color is known for its minimum power to absorb warmth and is a commonly used color in the Mediterranean countries. On the opposite, rust shows a mix of red, brown and orange. Both colors showcase their versatility by combinations – pair them with the other earth tones for a beautiful match, or with other colors within the color range – from blue tones tot neutrals, red and pink.
Beige is one of the most neutral colors of our color spectrum and is part of the lighter brown shades. The cool tones of this color showcase a pink undertone, while warm beige is characterized by a yellow undertone. Beige forms a safe foundation and offers a versatile canvas for endless combinations – pair with a bright color for a striking color contrast. Beige is often shown with a heathered effect to add depth to the color, what contributes to the rich appearance of the material – think of a heathered beige knit. Pair beige with brown shades for a nice tonal look or pair with green hues for a stylish serene feel.
